Applications are invited for PhD studies focused on theoretical and
computational design and modeling of novel (hybrid) nanoscale systems,
operated by chemical, physical and biological principles. The
candidates will learn how to use ab-initio electronic structure and
quantum transport methods, molecular dynamics simulations, they will
be able to write their own codes in various programming languages, and
acquire many other skills. We are seeking creative and highly
motivated individuals, with computational skills and background in
chemistry, physics or biology. Preliminary knowledge of theoretical
methods used in the above fields is very welcome.

The research will be conducted in the group of Prof. Petr Kral in the
Chemistry Department of the University of Illinois at Chicago
(http://www.chem.uic.edu/pkral/). Collaboration with other
experimental and theoretical groups is essential in our research. The
Chicago area has the best research institutions and possibilities for
collaborations in the Midwest. Chicago alone is experiencing large
scale renovations, which are particularly visible around the vibrating
UIC campus with many new restaurants, cultural and sports facilities.

Interested candidates should e-mail (as soon as possible) their CV and
the names and contact information of several references to:
pkral@uic.edu Formal applicants will also need to submit GRE and TOEFL
scores.
