PhD position for four years on inorganic composite materials used for biomagnetic sensing and other applications

The group “Synthesis and Real Structure of Solids” at the Department of Engineering of the Christian Albrechts University Kiel offers a PhD position for four years at a level of E13 (75%). The position is part of a joined interdisciplinary project starting 01.2010. The main fields of activity include TEM analyses on inorganic composite materials used for biomagnetic sensing and other applications. Mandatory job specifications include:
Hands-on experience in TEM, e. g. operation of a Tecnai F30 S-TWIN, including HRTEM and electron diffraction
TEM sample preparation
Hands-on experience in the application of analytical techniques, e.g. STEM, EDX, EFTEM/EELS-imaging via GIF

Optional specifications are:
Advanced electron diffraction techniques, e.g. CBED, microdiffraction and PED
Lorentz EM and electron holography

The successful candidate should have a master’s degree in physics, chemistry, mineralogy, material science or a related field.
Christian Albrechts University Kiel is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer seeking to increase the proportion of female faculty members. Qualified women are therefore especially encouraged to apply. Handicapped persons with equal qualifications will be preferred. Please send your application until the 01.11.2009 including C.V., grades and references to the head of the TEM center @ Nanolab Kiel: or to the address

Welcome - about us

Welcome! Nanopaprika was cooked up by Hungarian chemistry PhD student in 2007. The main idea was to create something more personal than the other nano networks already on the Internet. Community is open to everyone from post-doctorial researchers and professors to students everywhere.

There is only one important assumption: you have to be interested in nano!

Nanopaprika is always looking for new partners, if you have any idea, contact me at
