PhD position for four years on inorganic composite materials used for biomagnetic sensing and other applications

The group “Synthesis and Real Structure of Solids” at the Department of Engineering of the Christian Albrechts University Kiel offers a PhD position for four years at a level of E13 (75%). The position is part of a joined interdisciplinary project starting 01.2010. The main fields of activity include TEM analyses on inorganic composite materials used for biomagnetic sensing and other applications. Mandatory job specifications include:
Hands-on experience in TEM, e. g. operation of a Tecnai F30 S-TWIN, including HRTEM and electron diffraction
TEM sample preparation
Hands-on experience in the application of analytical techniques, e.g. STEM, EDX, EFTEM/EELS-imaging via GIF

Optional specifications are:
Advanced electron diffraction techniques, e.g. CBED, microdiffraction and PED
Lorentz EM and electron holography

The successful candidate should have a master’s degree in physics, chemistry, mineralogy, material science or a related field.
