A PhD scholarship in “plasmonic microfluidic sensors for urinary tract infections” at the Nanoscience Centre NanoSYD, Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark is available from 1st of October 2014, for a three year period.

Project description

Early detection and diagnosis of urinary tract infections is extremely important, especially for those who are hospitalized with other long-term illness, or who are immune-depressed. The candidate will work in collaboration with microbiologists at the Sønderborg hospital to develop a highly sensitive detection platform for bacteria based on plasmonic resonance effects. The objective will be to produce a lab-on-chip device capable of detecting low-levels of bacteria in urine samples.

Candidates, who have a previous Master’s degree in a field relevant to the mentioned PhD project, may seek the fellowships. Preferred candidates should have experience with the following areas: the use of plasmonic sensing in liquid environments, microfluidic device development, and modern cleanroom nano/microfabrication techniques.
