PhD and postdoc position at the university of Freiburg

A PhD and a postdoc position are immediately available in my group, funded by the BMBF project

"magnetic properties of nanoscale materials: x-ray studies of free particles"

The postdoc and the PhD student will plan, build and operate an improved version of the recently developed ion trap spectrometer for XMCD (x-ray magnetic circular dichroism) spectroscopy
on free, cold size-selected clusters (Phys. Rev. Lett. 108, 057201 (2012)).
This powerful technique yields an unprecedented insight into the magnetic properties of nanoparticles, as it allows to measure both spin and orbital magnetic moments of free and therefore completely unperturbed particles.
Because the apparatus will be located at the BESSY (HZB) in Berlin, the work will be performed both in Freiburg and in Berlin.

The candidates are expected to have a strong background in physics or physical chemistry, and experience with vacuum technology, ion beams,
laser or x-ray spectroscopy. Good knowledge of German or English, both written and oral, is compulsory.

Interested applicants should send a detailed CV to:
