The successful candidate will be expected to submit research grant proposals to build up a strong independent research profile, will supervise graduate students from the beginning, and will contribute to teaching of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Twente.

Research will be carried out also in collaboration with other MESA+ groups (and other international groups) at the cutting edge of the internationally leading work in soft, condensed matter science within the MESA+ Institute. The successful candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Requirements

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in one of the following areas: chemical technology, (physical) chemistry, physics, or related disciplines, and preferably have some international experience as postdoctoral researcher. He/she must have a demonstrated strong research record, a strong ability to conduct interdisciplinary collaborative research, and some expertise with supervising graduate students. His/her research experience (and documented original work) should include contributions in one or more of the following experimental areas: materials science of soft matter, polymer structure-properties relations, single molecule studies, responsive polymers. He/she would help (and eventually take over) the supervision of a world-class force microscopy laboratory, with many collaborative projects in the fields including biomaterials, synthetic devices, surface engineering, sensing, fluidics, and polymer engineering. Hence a hands-on expertise with scanning force microscopy is necessary.
