The Position:

CSIRO offers PhD graduates an opportunity to launch their scientific careers through our Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) Postdoctoral Fellowships.  Successful applicants will work with leaders in the field of science and receive personal development and learning opportunities.

Applications are invited for a 3 year OCE Postdoctoral Fellowship in Energy Saving. The main responsibilities of this post will be to conduct research on advanced materials for energy saving. These materials include micro-, nano- and meso-porous materials synthesized via self-assembly processes for use in multidisciplinary fields including optics, molecular, sensing, microfluidics and biomaterials.

Specifically you will:

  • Synthesise and conduct research on materials with micro- and nano-porous structures with the ultimate goal of understanding and quantifying the interactions that govern regimes of active material properties.
  • Contribute to the Materials for Energy, Water, and Environment research group within the Surfaces, Thin Films and Interfaces Program.
  • Help build the research reputation of the Materials for Energy, Water, and Environment research group to help meet its scientific and organisational objectives.
  • Work with other team members and provide support and/or supervision of junior staff or students, etc.

Location: Clayton, Victoria, Australia
Salary: $78K to $88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation (pension fund)

To be successful in this position you will need:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as materials science, materials engineering, synthetic or applied chemistry or related area.  
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out research and publish in the area of novel materials synthesis.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team including the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues and collaborators.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including an ability to publish research results write reports and make scientific presentations to audiences with scientific and non-scientific background.

The successful appointee must have completed, or will shortly complete, the requirements for a PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline. Owing to terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant Postdoctoral experience.
