The regulatory landscape for nanotechnology continues to shift throughout the world, with key discussions being held in a multitude of different sectors and locations. Europe remains at the forefront of legislative developments in the area, with individual Member States as well as the European Commission looking to develop and improve their governance systems.

At this time, therefore, the nanotechnology industries have many questions that need answering, including:
- What impact will the nano-specific modification of the REACH Annexes have, and who should be preparing?
- What is expected to be the outcome of the European Commission’s ongoing review of the 2011 recommended definition of the term ‘nanomaterial’?
- How will the numerous and disparate transparency measures being implemented by Member States affect industrial stakeholders?
- How are stakeholders in nanotechnology communicating these developments to the general public, and building acceptance for their views?
