The Department of Analytics at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig invites candidates to apply for a 3-years PhD position (50%, 19.5h, TVÃķD 13 including health and pension scheme) in the topic of nanoparticle analysis and investigation of their fate in the environment.

The candidate will work on the development of analytical methods to characterize nanoparticles and to study their fate in heterogeneous environmental systems. This interdisciplinary project will bridge disciplines by applying tools from analytical chemistry, toxicology, and ecotoxicology. The outcomes will be of high interest to several scientific communities including basic research as well as applied disciplines (e.g. natural science, engineering and regulation). Nanoparticles will be characterized e.g. by field flow fractionation, ICP mass spectrometry, and imaging techniques. For these challenging tasks we look for an enthusiastic PhD student with the interest in understanding the fate of nanoparticles in natural systems by combining tools from various disciplines. Knowledge in colloidal/nano chemistry and/or analytical chemistry as well as the ability to work within a highly motivated team and writing documentations will be of advantage.
