Research Associate required for Bristol NanoESCA Facility – State of the art UHV Spectromicroscopy
The University of Bristol has been awarded funding by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), to establish the first UK-based NanoESCA for material analysis using nano-scale photoemission and spectroscopy techniques.

We seek to appoint a Research Associate with practical experience of operating UHV ESCA equipment.
You will be tasked with the day-to-day operation of the NanoESCA II, and the training of expert users and postgraduate students. Research responsibilities will also include implementing a programme of instrument development activities, including the commissioning of additional variable energy VUV-vis and XUV light sources on the NanoESCA II, during years 1-3 of grant-funded operation, and also supporting collaborative research projects set up between Bristol University, Diamond Light Source, and members of its user community.

You will have finished or be close to finishing a PhD in Physics, Chemistry or a Materials-related subject that has involved extensive use of specialist UHV surface analysis equipment. Prior work experience which has involved the use of a laboratory-based NanoESCA is preferred.

This post will give you an exciting opportunity to do cutting edge materials research in one of the world’s quietest laboratories using state-of-the-art, UHV spectromicroscopy equipment.

The duration of this EPSRC-funded post is 3 years, with the appointment commencing at the end of January 2016.
