KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • New product commercialization with emphasis on scientific understanding of structure property relationships, failure analysis, design of manufacturing processes and reliability analysis.
  • Creation of project execution plan after being given the basic idea of goals or direction for material performance improvement. The execution plan is informed by existing literature reports on the pertinent subject matter and the knowledge of analytical testing methods.
  • Fluency in literature searching techniques and demonstrated expertise in interpreting typical scholarly journal articles or doctoral thesis.
  • Candidate should be comfortable among other things, in working independently or part of a project team, frequent project presentations, and travel to vendors and universities.
  • Assignments can be a significant portion of a larger project.
  • Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.
  • Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters.
  • Assists in project planning and review.
  • May participate in customer interface with or without team leader.
  • Selects scientific techniques to solve problems and makes sound recommendations.
  • Assesses results for applicability, validity, and conformance to specifications.
  • Handles special short term projects, as assigned.
  • Ability to fluently converse in English, understand the safety instructions written in English.
  • Understand the health, safety and environmental policies of Baker Hughes and follow the same in all daily activities including the use of task specific use of personal protective equipment.
  • Frequent reporting - weekly, monthly, or as necessitated by the project. These reports could include PowerPoint, charts, excel data analysis, narratives over email or in-person presentations.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
  • MS Degree in Material Science or Chemistry discipline with 2-4 years experience, or PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, or Engineering discipline with 0-2 years experience.
  • In-depth understanding of material structure-property relationships, polymers/elastomers, surface modification chemistry, nanomaterials and processes to make them and pertinent analytical characterizations and measurement techniques.
  • In-depth understanding of polymer composite processing and fabrication techniques – shear mixing, extrusion, molding and their common industry usage.
  • Well versed with the latest published knowledge on use of materials in oil and gas, automotive, aerospace, marine, and similar industries.
  • Good problem solving skills with a drive for results.
  • Proficiency in data analysis using excel or an alternative statistical software.
  • Good written and verbal skills.
  • Experience in researching literature and interpreting patents.
  • Ability to build peer relationships within the company.
  • Must be action-oriented, ethical in values, and have a strong customer focus.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD preferred with post-Doctoral experience at reputed university.
  • Familiarity with polymer materials processing technologies pertinent to producing nanofiller polymer composites.
  • Hands-on experience with chemical surface functionalization of nanoparticles.
  • Familiarity with materials characterization testing, compositional analysis, micro-structural analysis, and chemical degradation.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques used to characterize material structure and mechanical behavior, including optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), x-ray diffraction (XRD), tensile and compressive strength and wear resistance measurements.
  • Familiarity with designing materials based on nanotechnology.
  • Demonstrated record of research creativity and materials innovation.
  • Proof of research publications in peer reviewed scholarly journals of repute.
  • Experience in elastomer processing and thermomechanical properties testing.
  • Experience in purchase of analytical instruments and their maintenance.
