We are happy to announce the International PhD School on Application of Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) in Life Sciences, Soft Matter and Nanofabrication to be held in Aalborg (Denmark), 26-30 Aug 2013.

The program includes lectures by expert in atomic force microscopy and bionanotechnology with specific emphasis on imaging of biological and soft-matter objects and application of advanced SPM techniques (Kelvin probe, EFM, elasticity and adhesion mapping and fast scanning AFM). Since biomolecules are not as robust as classical nanostructures, such as, for example,
carbon nanotubes or metal nanoparticles, special precautions should be taken to avoid deformation of the molecules during the measurement.

The practical training will include deposition of various biomolecules, their AFM imaging and analysis of the experimental data as well as demonstration of advanced SPM modes available in new multi lock-in NT-MDT controllers. SPM equipment and training will be provided by NT-MDT Europe BV.

Social program will include: The welcome reception, the School Banquet as well as bus trip to Skagen, the northernmost point of Denmark, and other unique natural beauty spots in Denmark.

The confirmed speakers are:
Alexander Kotlyar (Tel Aviv University): “Purification, deposition and imaging of biological molecules and phages”.
Ned Seeman (New York University): “Using the chemical information in DNA to organize the structure of matter on the nanoscale.”
Yuri Lyubchenko (University of Nebraska Medical School): “Nanocinematography — Dynamics of protein-DNA complexes with AFM”
