Group Leader and Postdoc Positions - Dresden, Germany

Group Leader and Postdoc Positions for fundamental studies of complex metallic materials

In the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant “INTELHYB” (Next generation of complex metallic materials with intelligent hybrid structures) of the principal investigator Prof. Jürgen Eckert, the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) in Germany is seeking outstanding and enthusiastic researchers with a strong record of creativity and achievements in the area of metastable metallic materials.

The key concept behind INTELHYB is to define new routes for creation of tailored metallic materials based on scale-bridging intelligent hybrid structures enabling property as well as function optimization. The novelty of this project as compared to conventional ideas is that they apply to monolithic amorphous materials or bulk nano/microcrystalline structures. INTELHYB will create four types of hybrid structures: metallic glass-based hybrid structures with transformation effects at different length scales, metallic glass-based hybrid structures with shape memory phases, microcrystalline grained hybrid structures based on elastic instabilities and modulated length scale, modulated thin film hybrid structures for MEMS/NEMS, sensor and actuator applications.

Project start date: 1st February 2014
Project duration: 5 years

4 work-packages (WPs) shall be executed:
WP1: Material synthesis, thermomechanical processing and process optimization
WP2: Phase analysis of micro- & nano- phases and structures
WP3: Physical properties characterization and mechanical testing
WP4: Theoretical design and optimization methodologies

Several positions are available:
2 Group Leader positions (2 WPs each (WP1 & WP2, WP3 & WP4), full time, TV-L E14-E15)
4 Postdoc positions (each one assigned to one WP, full time, TV-L E13)

The project is based on interconnections between WPs and a strong cooperation is expected. Candidates with a strong, well-documented background in material science or physics are invited to apply. Excellent written and spoken English skills are required. We emphasize team work, and are significantly involved in international projects and conferences.

Please send your application exclusively via email to bewerbung@ifw-dresden.de. Please include a letter of motivation, a CV, a list of publications and up to two letters of recommendation. Applications will be accepted until the candidates are found.
