Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) was established with the objective of promoting Italy’s technological development and further education in science and technology. Its scientific program integrates fundamental research and the development of technical applications as a major inspirational principle. Our research covers scientific areas of high innovative content, representing the most advanced frontiers of modern technology, from medicine to industry, from computer science to robotics, life sciences and nanobiotechnology.

The Nanochemistry Department, headed by director Liberato Manna, is active in the latter domain, developing a broad range of nanomaterials. Next to materials synthesis, our teams target applications in catalysis, health care (cancer therapy, targeted drug release), photonics (light emission and modulation), and energy harvesting and storage.

We welcome applications for one fellowship position focusing on “Colloidal synthesis, characterization and application of nanomaterials”.

The candidate’s research activity will focus on the following main objectives:

  • development of novel approaches for the colloidal synthesis of nanomaterials including mainly complex semiconductor alloy nanocrystals and nanocrystal heterostructures
  • investigation of transformations of various nanocrystalline structures via cation exchange reactions
  • fabrication and characterization of thin nanocrystalline films with the aim of their further application as light-absorbers in photovoltaic devices, gas sensors and transistors.

Eligible candidates should have a recent Master’s Degree in Chemistry or Materials Science. No PhD title is required.

Good communication skills in English as well as marked enthusiasm for research and creativity are mandatory.

Expertise in colloidal synthesis of nanoparticles will be additionally considered.

Workplace: Genoa, Italy

Interested candidates should send their CV with names of 2 referees to vladimir.lesnyak@iit.it and iulia.manolache@iit.it, before June 15th 2014 quoting ‘’REF 31  Fellowship position in  Colloidal synthesis’’ in the subject line.

In order to comply with Italian law (art. 23 of Privacy Law of the Italian Legislative Decree n. 196/03), the candidate is kindly asked to give his/her consent to allow IIT to process his/her personal data.
We inform you that the information you provide will be solely used for the purpose of assessing your professional profile to meet the requirements of Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia.
