Welcome to ITN “Nanoelectromechanical Motion in Functional Materials”!

NANOMOTION represents a joint European effort involving eight partners seeking to make breakthroughs in nanoelectromechanical characterization of emergent functional materials.. The position is funded by the European Commission in the framework of the FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network “NANOMOTION”. NANOMOTION aims at the development of the next generation of multifunctional materials (piezoelectrics, ferroelectrics, multiferroics, ionic conductors and polar biomaterials) using novel nanoelectromechanical tools: Piezoresponse Force Microscopy (PFM) and Electrochemical Strain Microscopy (ESM) as well as their combination with traditional scanning probe microscopy methods. NANOMOTION is intended to train the next generation of scientists, engineers and technologists in the fundamental aspects of nanoelectromechanics and to apply advanced PFM/ESM tools to study a wide range of emergent multifunctional materials.

 

Opportunities are available as follows:

12 PhD positions:
- Lead-free piezoelectrics (University of Leeds - UK, Tyndall Institute - Ireland )

- Nanostructured ferroelectrics (Nanotec/ICMM - Spain)

- Calculations and modelling (Uiniversity of Duisburg-Essen - Germany)

- Magnetoelectric and multiferroic materials (National Physical Laboratory – UK, University of Duisburg-Essen - Germany)

- Piezoelectric biomaterials and nanostructures (University of Aveiro - Portugal, University College Dublin - Ireland)

- Battery materials for energy storage (Bosch - Germany)

1 postdoc position:

- Development of PFM and ESM methods (University of Aveiro – Portugal, Nanotec - Spain)

 

Research Fields

Materials Science, Physics, Scanning Probe Microscopy, Chemistry.

 

Career Stage

Early stage researcher or 0-4 yrs (master degree or equivalent) 
Experienced researcher or 4-10 yrs (postdoc) 

 

Benefits

Researchers will receive a competitive salary and generous allowances for travel and for participation in the training and research events of the Network. An employment is possible after successful completion of PhD thesis.

Dear  Andrei Kholkin,

I am interested in pursuing Ph.D., in Battery materials for energy storage. I have completed my B.E., in BioMedical Instrumentation with 8.89 CGPA in may 2009 and M.Tech in NanoMedical Sciences with 8.58 CGPA in june 2011. My M.Tech project was based on Supercapacitors using activated carbon which has been published in Indian Patents. With supercapacitor exposure, I believe that I can handle battery projects for my Ph.D., please do mail me the application procedure for the same.

I’m interested for PhD position in the area of ' Battery materials for energy storage (Bosch - Germany) like Silicon & TiO2 nanowire/nanorod & Nanostructured ferroelectrics’(Nanotec/ICMM).I have completed B.Sc & M.Sc in Physics 2007 and also done M.Tech in Materials Science and Enginnering from NIT Tiruchchirappalli (India). Now I pursuing the 1 year project (upto 1 march 2012) on TiO2 nanorod / quantum dots solar cell fromm IIT Bombay (India).

I have completed my B.Sc (Hons) in Physics & M.Sc in Physics both First Class from National University, Gazipur, Bangladesh and also completed M.Phil in Physics from the Department of physics, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka -1000, Bangladesh. Thesis title "Structural, Optical & Electrical Properties of Pb doped CdS Thin Films Deposited by Spray Pyrolysis Technique". Now I’m working as a Lecturer in physics in the Department of Textile Engineering, City University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, www.cityuniversity.edu.bd.
