Coating Development Engineer - St Asaph, North Wales

Location: St Asaph, North Wales

Salary: £28,500 - £36,500

Qioptiq is a global organisation that designs and manufactures advanced optical systems for defence & aerospace, medical & life sciences and industrial manufacturing applications.

Thin film coatings and related technologies are fundamental to the continued success of Qioptiq as a major supplier of complex and innovative optical equipment throughout the world. An exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic and creative individual to join our renowned Coating Development team.

In this role you will gain the skills required for the design and development of optical coatings for a very wide range of optical products covering wavebands from the ultra-violet to far infrared. We will provide a supportive environment where, mentored by senior engineers, you will quickly gain experience in all stages of the coating development process. In addition to learning the required theoretical concepts, software and engineering skills, you will be directly involved in the manufacture of your designs and the assessment in our laboratories. As well as on-the-job tuition, training will be provided by attendance at internal and external courses.

The role demands self-motivation, dedication and excellent communication skills. Candidates will require at least a good degree in physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a relevant engineering discipline. A Master’s degree related to optics or thin film coating would be of considerable advantage.
