Consistently ranked among the world’s top universities, UCL is a modern, outward-looking HEI, with a global reputation for excellence across research and teaching.  Founded in 1826 as a radically different institution, that opened up higher education to people of all beliefs and social backgrounds, this pioneering ethos remains alive today. As London’s leading multidisciplinary university, UCL is a true academic powerhouse, committed to engaging with the ‘Grand Challenges’ of the 21st Century, with genuine international reach and vision.

Operating at the forefront of science and technology, the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN) is one of the leading institutes of its kind worldwide. Founded in 2003, as a joint venture between UCL and Imperial College London, the LCN's purpose is to solve global problems in information processing, healthcare, energy and environment through the application of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Based in UCL Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences (MAPS), but as part of a collaboration that spans Engineering and Biomedicine, the LCN draws on staff from across UCL.

UCL invites applications for the post of Director of the London Centre for Nanotechnology from candidates of the highest international standing, with an outstanding track record in nanoscience or related research, and with substantial experience of academic and strategic management. We are looking for somebody who is able to show imagination, vision and scientific leadership. The appointee will work collaboratively with other academic and interdisciplinary units in the Faculties of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and Engineering, and throughout UCL, playing a pivotal role in connecting scientists with various institutions and industry. S/he will be expected to lead interactions with other partner interdisciplinary units, which might include the Francis Crick Institute, and the Harwell Science & Technology Innovation Campus, and to continue to develop and deliver an ambitious strategy to ensure that the LCN remains world-leading.
