The Public Research Centre – Gabriel Lippmann, a public establishment for applied scientific research and technology transfer, has an opening for a permanent position for its "Science and Analysis of Materials" department (SAM) that focuses in the following fields: nanotechnologies and nanomaterials, smart functional materials, surface treatment and thin films, development of nano-analytical instrumentation and advanced characterization of materials for:

An Engineer for thin film nano-materials (m/f)
(ref: SAM-20140313-INGJK2)

Description of the position:

The proposed research engineer position stands in the framework of a research program on functional ferroic materials, which has recently started at the CRP. The research engineer will benefit from i) modern infrastructures including a large platform of state-of-the-art characterization techniques and ii) an advanced nanotechnology laboratory for the controlled elaboration of functional materials and simple devices. The research engineer will be particularly involved in the synthesis of thin film nanomaterials.

The SAM department is looking for a highly motivated engineer who will accelerate the dynamical development of the activities in multifunctional nanomaterials, particularly the research in multiferroic materials. Within a multidisciplinary and multinational research environment, the experienced research engineer will actively participate in the fabrication and optimisation of nano-materials within multiple research and development projects, and will so contribute to the laboratory excellence. The candidate shall play a leading role in the set-up of a new Pulsed Laser deposition (PLD) process equipment in terms of installation, validation and process development. This includes specific responsibilities in managing the laboratory equipment(s) and a sound interaction with PhD students, researchers and project leaders.

Profile:

- A master degree in physics, physical chemistry or material science is required; a PhD in one of these fields will be regarded as an asset;
- Demonstrated experience in the synthesis of functional thin film oxides, and their chemical, structural and functional characterization;
- Strong experimental background in Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) of at least five years of is mandatory;
- Hands-on experience in the installation, validation and process development of a PLD system are highly desirable;
- Demonstrated achievements or scientific contributions to the science of functional materials would be appreciated;
- First experience in the training and supervision of students or visitors is an asset;
- The candidate is expected to present a high degree of determination and enthusiasm;
- Good spoken and written English is mandatory. Good knowledge of either French or German is a plus.
