Empa is the interdisciplinary research and services institution for
material sciences and technology development of the ETH Domain.

Our Laboratory for Mechanics of Materials and Nanostructures at
Empa's location in Thun, Switzerland, is offering an

Academia / Industry Postdoc Position in Thin Films

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher or senior scientist with
qualifications in either physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering
or materials science. Research is conducted in an international
environment in the frame of a joint position with an industry
research laboratory of a global glass manufacturer with the goal
to radically innovate optical, mechanical and thermal properties.
Stable funding is provided through long-term industry and European
projects.

The research project is focused initially on the relationship between
mechanical properties of multilayer thin films and physical vapor
deposition (PVD) deposition conditions. Cutting edge thin film
chemical, mechanical and structural analysis facilities as well as
modeling tools will be expoited at Empa together with innovative
deposition facilities at the industrial partner to design next
generation multilayer systems on glas.

A strong desire to work at the leading edge of measurement science
and a high level of motivation to work in an international,
multidisciplinary research team in the field of materials science are
essential as well as the willingness to integrate into both academic
and industrial enviroments. Knowledge of English (oral and written) is
important and knowledge of German or French would be an advantage.
Experience in physical vapor deposition techniques or mechanical
properties of thin films is an advanctage but not mandatory.

Empa in Thun and the close by industry research laboratory offers an
