MRC-PHE Centre for Environment and Health at Imperial College and King’s College London

The MRC-PHE Centre for Environment and Health is delighted to welcome applications for our PhD studentship programme to start October 2015. The Centre is a joint collaboration between Imperial College London and King’s College London, and is recognised as an international centre of excellence for research and training on the health effects of environmental pollutants. The studentships will be based at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College, and/or Analytical and Environmental Sciences Division at King’s College London.


Possible research areas for studentships:
• Environmental exposure, biomarkers/omics and causes of asthma, allergy and respiratory diseases; cardiovascular diseases; and cancer
• Biomarkers, ‘omics’ and statistical modelling of health outcomes: risk prediction and early detection of diseases
• Air pollution and health
• Noise pollution and health
• Systems medicine, computational biology, and bioinformatics
• Genomic and mechanistic toxicology
• Biostatistics, data science, and mathematical modelling
• Climate change and health

Centre studentships will include tuition fees and a stipend of £15,700 to £17,500 per annum (for UK and EU nationals).

Non-EU international students are eligible to apply but will need to meet MRC's "Recruitment of international students" guidelines to be eligible for the full award and demonstrate the ability to fund the difference in Imperial College London or King’s College London’s overseas tuition fees. Applicants should have, or expect to receive, a first or upper second class degree or equivalent in a relevant quantitative science or life science subject such as biology, genetics, biochemistry, medicine, biomedical sciences, chemistry, economics, mathematics, geography, physics, statistics etc.


The closing date for application is 5th January 2015 (23:59 GMT).

Interviews for short listed candidates will take place on the 4th and 5th February 2015.
