IBM researchers develop a 155 Ghz graphene transistor using a diamond-like carbon substrate

Researchers from IBM developed a graphene transistor with a record cut-off frequency of 155 Ghz and the shortest gate length ever (just 40nm). They used a diamond-like carbon as the top layer of the substrate on which the Graphene is deposited. This material is a great substrate for Graphene. It's a& non-polar dielectric material - so it does not 'trap' or scatter charges, doesn't absorb a lot of wayer and has excellent thermal conductivity. It's also cheap to make and widely used today in… Continue

Largest OLED lighting panel (33x33cm) to date developed by the OLED100.eu project

The European OLED100.eu project developed a new OLED lighting panel that is the largest to date: a 33x33cm2 panel. The new panel offer 25lm/W at 1000 cd/m2 luminance. This relatively good efficiency was achieved using ou-coupling and an efficient RGB OLED stack. The panels were fabricated at the Gen-2 line at the Fraunhofer IPMS:…

Course Nanomaterials - June 07 – 09, 2011, Bad Gastein, Austria

This course is application-oriented. Typically, participants come from companies or

institutes, which want to apply nanomaterials or to step in into this field.

Within three days, the participants get more knowledge about nanomaterials as

compared to a few months of tedious literature studies. The instructor,

Prof. Dieter Vollath is author of the first textbook on nanomaterials.

The number of participants is limited to ten; therefore, early…

Graphene transistors are 'self cooling'

Researchers from the University of Illinois discovered that graphene transistors have a nanoscale cooling effect that reduces their temperature. This means that graphene-based electronics could require very little cooling (or none at all):

Spingate advances new pS-MRAM technology, working on a 4Gbit chip design

Spingate is a US company working on magnetic memory (MRAM) designs and IP. The company says they are advancing their new pS-MRAM technology (based on spin induced switching and perpendicular magnetic materials). According to Spingate this new technology will be competitive in performance and price/bit with all existing memory technologies including DRAM and NAND flash. The company is already working on a 4Gbit chip design.…

PhD position in single-molecule chemical physics

We seek to recruit a PhD student in the field of scanning probe control of single molecules supervised by Dr Peter A. Sloan of the Nanoscience group and the Centre for Graphene Science at the University of Bath.

The ability of the scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) to control matter at the atomic level has led to the building of atomic scale structures from the bottom by 'simply' pushing the atoms or molecules across a surface. The STM can also manipulate molecules through… Continue
