Defects in Graphene can make it even stronger

NIST researchers say that defects in Graphene may appear due to the movement of the carbon atoms at high temperatures when producing graphene by heating silicon carbide under ultrahigh vacuum. Graphene tend to rearrange from six-sided rings to five or seven atoms. Stringing five and seven member rings together in closed loops creates a new type of defect or grain boundary loop in the honeycomb lattice.

These defects might allow it a little flexibility, making Graphene even more… Continue

New OLED materials last 1.4 million hours, more efficient Samsung OLEDs coming

OLED technology used to suffer from short lifespan (counted in hours till 50% brightness). But the technology improves quickly. Universal Display unveiled new materials that are long-lasting. In fact their green-yellow lasts for 1.4 million hours (!) while the red lasts for 900,000 hours. Only the blue is still a major issue with only 20,000 hours. But it is improving, too.

The company's Phosphorescent materials are more efficient than fluorescent ones. Samsung is currently using… Continue

A Comparison of Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes and Stacked-Cup Carbon Nanotubes

While carbon nanotubes (CNT) and carbon nanofibers (CNF) are both hollow, nanometerals in scale, and produced in a similar manner, there are distinct differences which significantly impact their performance and ability to be processed.  The primary differences between the materials are morphology, size, ease of processing, and…

All carbon nanotubes are not created equally

The family of carbon nanotubes is large. There can be single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), which are like a rolled up sheet of graphene - a monolayer of carbon bonded into a tubelike structure or they could be multiwalled carbon nanotubes, which have concentric layers of these graphene tubes. These carbon nanotubes can have large aspect ratios (length to width) or could be cut into ultra short carbon nanotubes. In fact, carbon nanotubes come in thousands of different molecular weights and… Continue

Welcome - about us

Welcome! Nanopaprika was cooked up by Hungarian chemistry PhD student in 2007. The main idea was to create something more personal than the other nano networks already on the Internet. Community is open to everyone from post-doctorial researchers and professors to students everywhere.

There is only one important assumption: you have to be interested in nano!

Nanopaprika is always looking for new partners, if you have any idea, contact me at
