High-performance bendable batteries possible using Graphene

Researchers from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) say that Graphene can be used to create bendable rechargeable batteries.

This battery actually has promising performance compared to non-flexible batteries - higher energy density, power density and better cycle life. The team now works on extending the performance using solid-state or polymer electrolyte. They also believe that this technology can be used not just in batteries but also in solar cells,… Continue

BMW uses MRAM in their new super racing bike, the S-1000RR

BMW revealed today that they are using a 4Mb MRAM chip (made by Everspin) in their S-1000RR super bike. BMW is using the memory chip in their Motorrad Motorsport engine control unit (ECU) called RSM5, storing important calibration data that controls the motorcycle during a race. The MRAM chip stores adjustable engine parameters such as data related to a racing bike’s fuel injection, ignition, braking and acceleration, and is optimized before each race - with different parameters according to… Continue

The Fraunhofer Institute to demo their bidirectional OLED microdisplay

The Fraunhofer Institute announced their bidirectional OLED on CMOS microdisplay back in 2009. The idea is to have an OLED display and a camera on the same chip by integrating photodiodes between the OLED pixels. On March 22rd (at the Smart Systems Integration 2011 exhibition in Dresden, Germany) they will demo the system for the first time. One of the possible applications for such a bi-directional display is interactive data glasses:…

LG's 8-Gen line will produce 55" OLED-backlit LCDs in 2011, not true-OLED TVs

LG Display has started to install equipment in their upcomnig 8-Gen OLED production line that will be able to produce 72,000 55" OLED TV panels in a month. Mass production is expected by the end of 2011.

It turns out that those OLED TVs will actually be white-OLED (phosphorescent based) with color filters - or actually OLED-backlit LCDs and not 'true OLED' TVs (in which each pixel is 3 RGB OLED subpixels). LG's OLED-LCD TVs will boast 400ppi and will have better brightness and… Continue

Welcome - about us

Welcome! Nanopaprika was cooked up by Hungarian chemistry PhD student in 2007. The main idea was to create something more personal than the other nano networks already on the Internet. Community is open to everyone from post-doctorial researchers and professors to students everywhere.

There is only one important assumption: you have to be interested in nano!

Nanopaprika is always looking for new partners, if you have any idea, contact me at editor@nanopaprika.eu
