Is there any seminar or Congress this year in South America?
Please, if somebody know about any, specially in November or December, let me know.

You just missed Nano MERCUSOR 2009 which the Fundación Argentina de Nanotecnología (FAN) convened earlier this month in Buenos Aires:

Mexico is thrusting forward in the pursuit of NanoTech applications for clean water filtration systems:
Parse through SciDev.Net's Latin America and Caribbean regional links for possible conference proceedings and announcements.

Nano & Giga Challenges in Electronics, Photonics, and Renewable Energy 2010 forum will take place in Cancun, Mexico in August 2010. The event is organized in part by the Canadian Semiconductor Technology Conference, which has extended its deadline acceptance date for submission of the papers for the special issues of Nanotechnology (on semiconductor science and technology) and Nano Research Letters (on organic and bio- related electronics, photonics and renewable energy) until the end of August:

There's still time to submit papers and propose workshops to be presented at the International Conference on Quantum, Nano and Micro Technologies to be held in February 2010 in St Maarten, Netherlands Antilles (Caribbean Sea, off Venezuelan coast, otherwise known as the Dutch West Indies).

Conference tracks and topics are the following:
Quantum technologies
Quantum security
Nano technologies
Micro technologies
Application nano/micro domains
Nano and micro materials and properties
Microfluidics and nanofluidics
Superconductivity, materials and applications
Nano and bio robotics

Also, in the region of the Lesser Antilles, the 2009 Villa Conference on Interactions Among NanoStructures will meet on St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands in September.

"This conference consists of 2 components: [1] Nano-research, for close discussion and open sharing, to stimulate in-depth understanding of the physical, chemical, and biological interactions among nanoscale components, including carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles, nanowires and quantum dots and nano-education, [2] To share best practices and awareness of nano-education within the university setting and chart the future direction on nano-research, grants, curriculum development and international collaborations". A particular feature of this conference is its encouragement of "open-access" information availability.

The International Conference on Advanced Materials (ICAM) is meeting in September in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:

An agreement for scientific and technological cooperation between Argentina and South Africa signed in 2007 has resulted in ongoing collaborations, the last being this June's workshops on the status of their NanoTech and NanoScience programmes and laboratory visits in Buenos Aires, La Plata, and Cordoba. A 10-day mini-school session of workshops and research centre visits throughout Argentina are being planned for 2010:

Ineke Malsh has written a comprehensive report on NanoTech in Argentina based upon his 2007 fact-finding mission. Below is his 2008 update with corrections: He provides links to pertinent academic institutions, ministerial agencies, congresses, etc. which will allow you to track their seminars and annuals:

Asociación Argentina de Materiale is convening SAM-CONAMET 2009: 9º Congreso Internacional de Metalurgia y Materiales in October.
Also, of this I just became aware (although it's not South America, but it is a regional November seminar):

La Conferencia Internacional sobre La Ciencia de Materiales en la Era Nano (The International Conference on Material Science in the Age of Nano) will be hosted by the
Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnologìa de Materiales (Institute of Material Research and Engineering) at
la Universidad de la Habana in Cuba. The conference (scheduled for 23-28 November) will be preceded by lecture
sessions conducted by professors from the Vienna University of Technology and the Universidad de la Habana (18-21 November). A seminar (by invitation) of the Higher Education Network in Nanotechnology will also take place.

NANOMAT 2009's Workshop on Metastable and Nanostructured Materials ended this week on the 26th in Mexico. Organized by the Departamento de Ingeniería en Metalúrgia y Materiales, IPN - ESIQIE, Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Química e Industrias Extractivas, and Instituto Politécnico Nacional, the conference also functioned as first Simposio Nano-ESIQIE.

Workshop topics covered:
Thermodynamics and modeling of nanomaterials processing
Non equilibrium processing techniques
Nanocrystallisation of amorphous alloys
Bulk nanostructrured Materials
Thermal stability and phase transformations
Metal, ceramic and polymer based nanocomposites
Properties and applications
Hydrogen in nanocrystalline alloy
Biomaterials and Health issues
Red Latinoamericana de Tecnología y Socidad (ReLANS)

Lista de las organizaciones y workshops de la nanociencia y nanotecnología en América Latina:
Argentina, Brasil, Perú, Colombia, Costa Rica, México, y Cuba.

Of possible interest: Visions of Brazilian Scientists on Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies
Re: Ineke Malsch.
The above should read "based upon her 2007 fact-finding..." and "Below is her 2008 update..." and "she provides links with corrections..."

Mea culpa,

Sorry for didn´t watch the question at the right time. We had an International Seminar in Rio, 10-12 November, 2010.

Excelente new year for all.

TECNAN is very interested in taking part in all events about nantoechnology in South America, specially in Brazil.

Welcome - about us

Welcome! Nanopaprika was cooked up by Hungarian chemistry PhD student in 2007. The main idea was to create something more personal than the other nano networks already on the Internet. Community is open to everyone from post-doctorial researchers and professors to students everywhere.

There is only one important assumption: you have to be interested in nano!

Nanopaprika is always looking for new partners, if you have any idea, contact me at
