Inhibitory effect of Nanoparticles towards Microbial activity

How is that silver and gold Nanoparticles differ in the mechanism of inhibition towards a microbe (bacterial,viral and fungal) and what is the action of mechanism taking place with the microbe, why is it that Nanoparticles show greater efficacy towards the action of inhibition when combined with a drug or bioactive compound. does Nanoparticles have cidal or static activity.
