Transmission Electron Microscopy

fn1_2d_tem_cr.pptfn1_lg_12_cr.docThe TEM module is not very comprehensive but for a first semester course it is probably sufficient. If you want a good resource for TEM I recommend the book Transmission Electron Microscopy by David B. Willliams and C. Barry Carter. I got this as a four volume paperback set. It looks like it is now in a hardcover version available from Amazon at the following web site:http://www.amazon.com/Transmission-Electron-Microscopy-Textbook-Materials/dp/038776500X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224191760&sr=8-1One of the best nanoscience resources is Nanohub. Nanohub has a variety of different resources available but one of the most abundant is the set of online presentations which can be accessed from the following web site:http://www.nanohub.org/browse/onlinepresentations/The presentation I want to refer to here is:"Electron and Ion Microscopies as Characterization Tools for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology"This is a good presentation on electron and ion microscopy techniques but the part I found particularly fascinating was the section at the end where they show carbon nanotubes growing inside an environmental TEM.The activity I do for this section is based on the web site:http://www.matter.org.uk/tem/This site has some excellent Java based simulations. Besides TEM they also include a number of other modules going up to the top level.Although we do not have a TEM here at CVTC our partner institution University of Wisconsin Eau Claire has a nice 200 keV system and this week we went on a field trip to the UW Eau Claire Materials Science Center which has a good collection of analysis equipment.

  • I tried to access the page as suggested by you:
http://www.nanohub.org/browse/onlinepresentations/ the same does not open is there some problem?
    Thanks from Manoranjan
  • Mr. Mikelson, Do you have information about ENERGY STORAGE IN CARBON NANOTUBES & ENERGY PRODUCTION FROM CARBON NANOTUBES,
If you are please tell me more information.
    Your truly, hasan
  • Mr. Mikelson thankyou very much for your fn1_2d_tem_cr.ppt and

  • Hello,
Hey Hans i just met you in the ATE conference, I'm a student from DCTC. We have a blog and I would like to share with you and your students.

I'm actually letting you know that the Nanoscience students of Dakota County Technical College have a blog and they will post things about their program.
