Abstract: Abstract- Quantum key distribution (QKD), based on the quantum physics laws, provides proven unconditional security for data communication between remote users. Since it was introduced in 1984, experimental efforts have been made to develop a secure, high-key rated optical networks that can perform over long distances. So far, QKD has become one of the most mature and advanced quantum information technologies ready for use for both DVQKD and CVQKD protocols. This paper is organized as follows, in section II, we introduce the fundamental principles and types of QKD approaches (prepare-and-measure; entanglement). In section III, implementation groundwork is studied. As the main part of our survey, we summarize the important past and actual QKD achievements in different countries in the fiber-based networks domain which is studied in section IV. The list of the countries which are part of our study includes Austria, Australia, Singapore, South Korea and many more. Section V concludes the paper.
