Two Postdoctoral Positions Available: Physical Chemistry of Heterogeneous Systems

1)      This postdoctoral position will use new experimental methods to measure heterogeneous free radical reactions at aqueous droplet and nanoparticle interfaces using a novel combination of synchrotron-based (the Advanced Light Source) X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, vacuum ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometry as well as ultra-high resolution atmospheric pressure mass spectrometry.

Required skills:  Strong background in chemical kinetics, instrumentation development, surface science, atmospheric pressure ionization mass spectrometry and aerosol measurement techniques.

2)      This project is a collaborative effort between PI’s Kevin Wilson and Frances Houle and will address the complex coupling of free radical oxidation with the transport properties in model glassy aerosols. This postdoctoral position will implement spatially resolved stochastic simulations of chemical kinetics for the study of reaction and diffusion in organic aerosols.  The primary responsibility of this position will be simulations with additional opportunities to participate in experiments.

Required skills:  Strong background in chemical kinetics, computer programming (C++ object oriented programming preferred), heterogeneous and aerosol chemistry and physics.

Both positions require a solid background in physical chemistry and a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field of study. Additional skills include experience in working in a research team environment; good oral and written communications; interpersonal skills; initiative; the ability to collaborate effectively on teams; creative/innovative thinking.
