Two doctoral (Ph.D.) research assistant (RA) student positions are available on the synthesis, characterization, and modeling of high performance energy-storage materials with nanostructures.

Objective: The project is to develop a reliable and durable energy storage material with an enhanced energy transfer rate through establishing a well-controlled functionalized carbon-nanofiber network embedded in a phase change material.

Position Details:

  1. The first Ph.D. RA will focus on the synthesis, functionalization, nanomechanical characterization and modeling of the functionalized carbon-nanofiber network.
  2. The second Ph.D. RA will focus on the synthesis, integration, thermal characterization and modeling of the phase change material.

The two RAs will work closely and will both have strong experience in materials science and engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer engineering, and nanotechnology.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor or Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Thermal Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Solid Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  2. Experimental and modeling experience in the field of synthesis and characterization of energy materials, nanomaterials and nanostructures is preferred (but not required).
