Two experimental officers in electron microscopy -

The Maastricht University is searching for experimental officers for its Nanoscopy division of the Multimodal Molecular Imaging institute (M4I).

Overall Purpose of the Job

The experimental officers facilitate the use, development and integration of electron microscopy among the members of the Facility. They train users, ranging from undergraduate students to research staff, in sample preparation and imaging. They are responsible for maximum uptime of the infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities or Duties

  1. Facilitation of electron microscopy research projects within the University.
  2. Organisation and implementation of training tutorials and courses in electron microscopy.
  3. Training and supervising of undergraduate, postgraduate as well as research staff in high-resolution electron microscopy.
  4. Implementation of non-standard EM techniques with particular reference to immune EM, 3D volume EM and cryo-EM.
  5. Involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  6. Acting as an interface between the unit and contract customers, and providing advice, training and practical assistance in contract work carried out by the unit.
  7. Maintaining electronic logbooks on project status, microsope usage, incidents and interventions.
  8. Advising and assisting in the selection, purchase, installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  9. Attending EM manufacturer’s specialist instrumentation servicing courses.
  10. Providing help in the writing of the annual (financial) report.
