Job description
The position will be located jointly at the Department of Applied Physics (http://physics.aalto.fi) and O. V. Lounasmaa Laboratory (http://lounasmaalab.aalto.fi/en/), in the Aalto University School of Science. Much of the physics research at Aalto University is focused on condensed-matter and materials physics, on quantum physics and nano-optics, and on advanced energy sciences. The physics community at Aalto University enjoys cutting-edge research infrastructure (OMN) and facilities located at the Otaniemi Campus, including Nanomicroscopy Center, Micronova for micro and nanotechnology and Low Temperature Laboratory in the O.V. Lounasmaa Laboratory.

Requirements
Throughout their career, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances of their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field.

We invite applications for a Tenure Track position in experimental quantum physics. We seek for an individual with apparent potential and/or demonstrated research excellence in quantum physics, primarily in the broad areas of condensed matter physics and nanoscience – for instance, in quantum information science, low temperature quantum devices, photonics and plasmonics or in quantum gases with interfaces to devices. Research areas with connections to technology and applications are welcomed. The successful candidate is expected to conduct an outstanding independent experimental research program that complements the existing research efforts in Aalto University in these fields.A more detailed description of the Tenure Track system at Aalto University is available at (http://www.aalto.fi/en/about/careers/tenure_track/).   •     Hold a doctorate in physics or related fields;
  •     Have potential to carry out research and attract research funding at the highest level;
  •     Are willing to be effective teachers in the undergraduate and graduate degree programs of the School of Science.

The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching and academic leadership and activity in scientific community. At the Assistant Professor level, evaluation is based mainly on scientific merits but also on the applicant’s potential. Therefore, we encourage especially young and promising candidates to apply.

Salary
Aalto University follows the salary system of the Finnish universities, but applicants can also provide their own requests. The annual total workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1600 hours. The position will be located at the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus.

  •     Reference letters (max 3 letters).
