Program Dates: July 21 - August 29, 2014
Application Deadline: May 15, 2014
The summer school is an intensive, five week introduction to electrochemically nanostructured silicon. Based on the book "Porous Silicon in Practice," this hands-on course exposes participants to the preparation, characterization, and applications of porous silicon-based nanomaterials.
The course runs weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm although there may be a few later days depending on individual projects. It is held in Pacific Hall on the UCSD campus (directions are here). Tutorial lectures are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am-noon, involving lecture, in-lab demonstrations, and student presentations. The remainder of the time is spent in the laboratory working on the course modules and the Discovery Projects. The Discovery Projects are done in 2-4 person teams.
