As a staff member you will support us in coordinating the novel teaching program of ScopeM (both for EM and LM), in taking care of the maintenance of light and electron microscopes and in training ScopeM users on the instruments. Performing sample preparation and imaging tasks for ScopeM users, helping the users with easier data and image processing tasks and participating in various ScopeM research efforts (currently concentrating around various correlative microscopy approaches) belong as well to your broad and interesting job description. The position is initially for one year with the option to be prolonged and the chance to become a permanent staff position once it is established at ScopeM. The ETH Zurich offers a cutting-edge research infrastructure, a highly international environment and excellent working conditions.

You bring along a technical or research background in biology and / or physics or an equivalent education in natural sciences. A PhD degree is an advantage, but not necessary. The suitable candidate is expected to have extensive practical experience in the following fields: optics, light-microscopy techniques, biological TEM/SEM and EM sample preparation. Expertise in more than one field is a big plus. Previous teaching experience and a solid IT knowledge is expected. Image processing and/or programming knowledge is of advantage. You should be willing to expand your knowledge in new microscopy techniques and be ready to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment. Good communication skills, a customer oriented (patient and friendly) personality and solid English knowledge are essential for the position.
