Softmatter Nanotechnology Postdoc

Job Description

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related toenergy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

Detailed Description

Postdoctoral Position in Softmatter Device Structures: The Softmatter Nanotechnology and Advanced Spectroscopy Team of the Chemistry Division (CHEM) is seeking outstanding candidates to join our effort in photovoltaic, light-emitting, and lasing electronic devices based on colloidal quantum dots and semiconductor/metal hybrid nanostructures. The position will involve the development of novel approaches for charge injection/extraction into/from the nanocrystals, the study of conductivity and photoconductivity in nanocrystal assemblies, and the fabrication of thin-film devices. This work will be supported by existing team efforts in nanomaterial synthesis, optical spectroscopy, and microstructural characterization. Detailed information on Team’s research projects and capabilities is available at http://quantumdot.lanl.gov.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements: Strong background in fabrication and characterization of devices based on colloidal nanostructures. Experience in semiconductor, metal and metal-oxide thin-film growth. A good understanding of device physics. Skills should also include photolithography, sputtering techniques, and electrical and optical device measurements.

Desired Skills: Experience working in a clean-room environment and some knowledge of device modeling. Experience in microstructural analysis (TEM, XRD, XPS), routine optical spectroscopies (UV-Vis, FTIR, PL, PLE), and scanning-probe microscopy (STM, AFM, MFM).

Education: A Ph.D. completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.

Additional Details

Notes to Applicants: For additional technical inquiries, contact Victor Klimov at klimov@lanl.gov .

Pre-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a pre-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Marie Curie, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships.

For general information refer to the Postdoctoral Program page.

Equal Opportunity: Los Alamos National Laboratory is an equal opportunity employer and supports a diverse and inclusive workforce. We welcome and encourage applications from the broadest possible range of qualified candidates. The Laboratory is also committed to making our workplace accessible to individuals with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodations, upon request, for individuals to participate in the application and hiring process.
