As the Army's Senior Research Scientist in nano based technologies, you will serve as the Department's senior technical expert in advanced materials technology including Nansocience and Nanotechnology. This position is located at the Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, which conducts broad programs of basic and applied research in all aspects of behavioral, biological and physical sciences as they relate to the development and improvement of Warfighter and small unit systems. The principal area of responsibility for this position includes leading fundamental research in new and novel materials involving exploitation of polymerscience and engineering, nanotechnology, advanced fiber and textile science, and other specialties within the materials science, including biomaterials such as biommimetics. Included is work toward discovery of unique and novel combinations of natural and synthetic polymers to address Soldier domain problem areas. Incumbent will also provide advice and consultation on general research problems related to the creation, development, and exploitation of advanced materials technology (including nanoscience/ nanotechnology) for application to future Soldier systems. Possession of a graduate degree, particularly at the doctoral level, is preferred or equivalent experience with substantial background and experience in advanced materials,nanoscience, nanotechnology or related fields, with significant experience in the conduct of independent research as indicated by a strong record of publishing.

The incumbent must possess exceptional qualifications and a clearly established reputation at the highest academic level. This is a highly multidiscipline position and because of his/her competence in several disciplines, he/she is sought as an advisor and consultant to other government agencies and industry. Due to his/her personal creative contributions, the incumbent has generated a new level ofcapability in his/her area of expertise. The incumbent functions as one of an elite handful of accredited scientists, who because of multitude of papers, patents, books, and book chapters, has been recognized nationally and internationally as indicated by numerous citations and affiliation with reputable scientific organizations, and his/her work has been the basis for advanced research. Because of a well-earned reputation in the scientific community, the incumbent serves as the recruitment attraction for recent graduates who, by close association with the incumbent, seek to derive new ideas and insights and scientific approaches to problem solving from this highly recognized pioneering scientist.

Specialized Requirements

At least 3 years specialized experience in or closely related to the field in which the candidate will work. Experience must have been sufficiently specialized to insure adequate familiarity with the area of specialization in nanoscience, nanotechnology, materials chemistry, physics,polymer science, textile science, the electronic/electrical properties of materials, with demonstrated experience in nanocomposites and bionanocomposites in polymeric matrices preferred due to the missions in flexible textiles, films and fibers as well as coatings for these material forms, or have direct application in the area for which the applicant is being considered. One year of the specialized experience must be at least equivalent to the GS-15 level.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
