Reserach Assistant - Technische Universität Berlin

Faculty IV - Department of High-Frequency and Semiconductor System Technologies/ Hochfrequenztechnik - Photonics
In the frame of the project “a lable-free optical sensor system on silicon: Determining the thermodynamic and kinetic quantities of protein-ligand interactions“ we offer a PhD-position. The project is a joint effort of TU Berlin / Photonics, TU Berlin / Department of Chemistry and Charité Universitätsmedizin. The goal is to develop an silicon-based optical sensor platform for the study of protein-ligand interactions. The optical platform is based on SOI and will use nano-wires and ring resonators for detection.
Reference number: IV-195/14 (to be filled as soon as possible for a period of 3 years/ closing date for applications 13.06.2014)

Description

Working field: Research comprises theoretical and practical work. Commercial software tools are used for the design of optical components. The realization of the sensor chips will take place in our cleanroom facilities. For the characterization of the sensor and the development of biochemical assays, measuring labs are available. Research topics are: Design of nanowires for waveguides and ring resonators, development of new concepts for multi-sensor chips, optimization of technology steps in order to improve the device quality, design and fabrication of the optical sensor. In cooperation with our project partners, joint experiments for the investigation of the protein-ligand interaction will be designed and carried out.
Requirements: As a successful candidate you should hold a university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in electrical engineering or physics with a strong background in integrated optics, silicon photonics, optical communications and semiconductor physics/ more information about the position can be obtained from Dr. Bruns (Tel.: +49 (0)30 314-23779, E-Mail: juergen.bruns@tu-berlin.de)
Please send your written application with the reference number and the appropriate documents to Technische Universität Berlin - Der Präsident -, Fakultät IV, Institut für Hochfrequenz- und Halbleiter-Systemtechnologien, FG Hochfrequenztechnik - Photonik, Prof. Dr. Petermann, Sekr.
