Research Scientist, Soft Materials Group-Chemistry

The University of Tennessee has an immediate opening for a Research Scientist I position at the Soft Materials Group. The group includes researchers from the Department of Chemistry and Department of Physics and Astronomy at UT Knoxville and from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The main research topics of the group are dynamics in soft matter, physics of polymers, ionic liquids, nano-composite materials, biophysics and nano-optics. Research will center around experimental studies of polymer dynamics, dynamics of ionic liquids and glass transition in general. Responsibilities will include directing research projects and co-oversight of post-doctoral research associates and graduate students. This candidate will analyze and interpret results for publications in peer reviewed journals. 


 

Qualifications
 
PhD in Physics, Materials Science or a closely related field. Deep knowledge of and expertise in at least one of the techniques – dielectric spectroscopy, light scattering, neutron scattering or rheology is required; able to work independently and participate creatively in refining project directions
