DTU Energy has a vacant position for a research scientist within 3D in-situ analysis of energy materials. The successful candidate will be part of the Section for Imaging and Structural Analysis, which focuses on advanced 2D and 3D ex-situ and in-situ imaging and structural analysis of functional materials for energy technologies.

Responsibilities and tasks
The candidate will play a major role in the team responsible for DTU Energy’s TEM activities and be DTU Energy’s representative in the DTU X-ray Imaging Portal. This includes ex-situ and in-situ investigations of ceramic, metallic and organic energy materials in 2D and 3D ranging from the nano- to the microscale. Focus will be on the functional sites, interfaces and surfaces. It is also expected that the candidate will play an active role in acquiring research funding for future projects. An important task will also be publications and scientific dissemination both for experts and to the public.

The candidate will contribute to DTU Energy’s teaching activities up to 20% of the working time. 

It is expected that the candidate to a large extent will take part in existing internal and external collaborations, and also that the candidate will promote new national and international collaborations.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree within Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering or equivalent. It is expected that the candidate has documented experience within the following fields:

  • Advanced TEM analysis by STEM, EDS, EELS, EFTEM, HRTEM.
  • In-situ/in-operando TEM analysis of functional materials
  • X-ray tomography of functional materials
  • Design of model samples and/or sample environments for in-situ/in-operando materials analysis by TEM and/or X-ray tomography
  • Advanced preparation of micrometer-scale samples, for example experience with FIB
  • Analysis of 2D and 3D imaging data including experience with the most common software tools.
  • Teaching and supervision at undergraduate and graduate level
  • Funding proposals
  • Has good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
  • Is able to work independently and take responsibility for progress and quality of projects. Well established skills to work in a cross disciplinary international team

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

  • scientific production and research potential at international level
  • innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas
  • the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities
  • experience in teaching and education
  • an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The position is permanent.

The post of research scientist is a permanent post as part of which the employee after a maximum of 4 years transfers to a position as senior research scientist provided that the employee is recommended for assessment and is deemed qualified.

The workplace will be at DTU Risø campus and at DTU Lyngby campus.
