Research Associate in Carbon Memory Materials

A position exists for a Research Associate to work on carbon-based memory materials. The project is funded by the European Union. The aim is to develop a new class of resistive memories based on carbon materials, including amorphous and diamond-like carbon, graphene and related layered materials. This is an ambitious frontier research program, with a strong interdisciplinary nature, across Engineering, Physics and Chemistry, and will require the optimization and device implementation of amorphous and diamond-like carbon films for the provision of high-performance nonvolatile memories and of graphene-based materials for the provision of non-volatile memories which are additionally suited to flexible electronics.

The successful candidate has obtained or is close to obtaining a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Photonics, Material Science or Electrical Engineering. Preference will be given to candidates with proven expertise in preparation, characterisation and optimisation of tetrahedral amorphous carbon by arc discharge and resistive memories.

Candidates should ideally also have experience in optimization and device implementation as required by the project, as well as research experience with sufficient breadth/depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline, and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Salary Range: £28,132 - £36,661 depending on qualifications and experience.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 March 2015 in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
