Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at Tampere University of Technology, founded in 2000, is the leading research center in optoelectronics and photonics in Finland. High-quality fundamental and applied research is carried out in two main research areas, which are Nanotechnology and Ultrafast and Intense Optics. In 2014, ORC runs 40 research and collaborative projects, has a budget of about 6.0 M€ and employs 70 people.

ORC’s semiconductor technology group combines the research on fabrication of novel III-V semiconductor materials, development of advanced nanolithography tools and development of component fabrication methods on desired applications. We have two fully equipped clean rooms and measurement laboratories dedicated to processing, packaging, and characterization of specialized laser diodes and solar cells.
Job description: We have opening available for a talentetd student at the ORC's semiconductor technology group. The work is related to development of high efficiency solar cells for concentrated photovoltaics and next generation space satellites.

The tasks will include epitaxial fabrication and characterization of III-V semiconductor heterostructures. The job offers a possibility for master's thesis work.
Requirements: The successful candidate for the Research Assistant position is expected to possess an applicable record of academic studies and competence on at least one of the following fields: Condensed matter physics, thin film technologies, photonics, semiconductor physics.

Excellent communication and cooperation skills and fluency in English, both written and oral, are essential when working in an international research group. The ideal candidate should feel comfortable working in international environment. Desire and strong dedication towards scientific research will be appreciated.
We offer: The successful applicant will have opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in a world-class semiconductor research facility and possibility to participate in developing cutting-edge optoelectronic devices for renewable energy applications and photovoltaics through challenging and multidisciplinary research tasks in international environment. For the successful applicant this is a great possibility for professional networking internationally.
Salary: The salary will be based on both the job demand level and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System.

According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of the Research Assistant is placed on the job demand level 1. In addition, employees will receive performance based salary, which for Research Assistants is based on their study credits.
