We are inviting applications for a postdoctoral fellow position at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. Our theoretical interest is in understanding how proteins actively control membrane properties to mediate T cell signalling and our research essentially relies on the use of advanced imaging. We use super-resolution techniques (PALM, STED, SIM) to gain an insight into the nano-organisation of cell membranes, as well as life cell imaging (image correlation spectroscopy, spinning disk confocal, TIRF) to investigate membrane dynamic.

The laboratory is located in the brand new Lowy Cancer Research Centre, where we have direct access to the Biomedical Imaging Facility (www.bmif.unsw.edu.au/) that has one of the most impressive collection of fluorescence microscopes in the world (Zeiss Elyra PALM-SIM, two Leica STED, PicoQuant MicroTime, Zeiss spinning disk confocal, Zeiss 780, JPK optical tweezers, etc). From the University of New South Wales, it is only a 10 min bus ride to the beach.

Candidates must have a PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, immunology or related science and a strong practical knowledge of fluorescence imaging. Experience in the study of endosomes and vesicles is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have an active role in conceiving and implementing experimental approaches, training and supervision of research staff and students and presentation of the results in the form of publications, international conference presentations and potentially grant applications.

The overall goal of the project is to understand the link between functional domains at the plasma membrane of T cells (T cell nano/microclusters) and the vesicles of the endosomal matrix. We aim to understand what are the mechanisms that allow the selective packaging of signalling proteins in vesicles and how these vesicles contribute to T cell activation and migration.

This is a full-time fixed term position available until 31 December 2014 with strong prospects for further contract periods. Salary range is A$82K – A$88K per year. Applications should be emailed to Dr Jeremie Rossy (j.rossy@unsw.edu.au) before April 20, 2014
