The LABORATORY OF CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS (LMC: http://lmc.epfl.ch) is part
of the Institute of Materials in the School of Engineering of EPFL (http://www.epfl.ch). Its
main activities deal with research, testing and expertise in cements, mortars and concretes.
The mission of the 3 senior scientists, 2 Postdocs, 13 PhD students and 4 technicians is to
carry out research on the understanding, improvement and conception of new cementitious
materials.
We are now looking for a postdoctoral researcher to strengthen our team.
Suitable candidates should be familiar with applications of X-ray powder diffraction in
cementitious materials. Preference will be given to candidates conversant in quantitative
phase analysis using Rietveld analysis or other methods. Applicants should have
demonstrated research experience in cementitious materials and have a strong background in
materials science, chemistry, mineralogy, or closely related disciplines. Additional experience
with other characterization techniques such as electron microscopy, porosimetry, NMR, and
calorimetry will be considered as a plus.
The successful applicant will be required to work in an international, interdisciplinary team.
The position will involve close collaboration and coordination with fellow postdocs in
guiding and supporting PhD students, visiting scholars and ongoing research programs. More
specifically, the selected candidate is expected to assume responsibility over the present XRD
equipment, provide support in data analysis, and further develop the use of XRD as
quantitative characterization technique in the field of cementitious materials. The position will
offer the possibility to develop and participate in individual and collaborative research
activities within the Laboratory of Construction Materials and through international research
networks.
EPFL, in Lausanne, Switzerland, is a dynamic science and engineering university ranked
among the top research institutions in Europe. It offers a rich international environment with
English as its common language, as well as competitive salaries and outstanding research
infrastructure.
