The Research Priority Area Sustainable Chemistry, which is part of the Van ‘t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences of the Faculty of Science, is looking for talented researchers to join four challenging projects, as detailed below. The working conditions and general demands for each position are identical. Applicants will be selected based on their suitability to the various projects. The successful candidates will be appointed as a postdoctoral researchers in a fixed-term contract.

Project description

The projects cover four apects of sustainable chemistry:

  1. converting biomass, water and chemical feedstocks to energy and value-added chemicals using fuel cells;
  2. synthesising reactive nano-containers for small molecule activation;
  3. designing and applying new MOFs in selective energy-saving separations;
  4. computing of structure-activity relationships using QM/MM methods.

We are looking for outstanding and highly motivated candidates with proven experience in one or more of the following areas: electrochemistry, inorganic materials, organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, photochemistry and computational chemistry.

Requirements

You must have either a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a PhD in Chemistry, with at least four papers published in peer-reviewed international journals. Applicants who do not meet these conditions will not be considered. Candidates with proven experience in the areas described above are preferred. Previous postdoctoral experience in similar environments is an advantage. You must have excellent communication skills in English. Knowledge of Dutch is an advantage.

Appointment

Appointment is for a period of 12 months with a possible extension for another 12 months, depending on the candidate’s performance and the projects’ needs. The salary will be in accordance with the University regulations for academic personnel, and will range from €2,427 to €3,831 (salary scale 10) gross per month based on a fulltime employment and depending on expertise and previous experience. The Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities applies.
