The George Mason University, College of Science is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position to work on a Defense Threat Reduction Agency-funded project to develop technologies to discover new antimicrobials and rapidly ascertain their therapeutic potential. This position is part of a multiyear contract that started in March of 2012 and is part of an applied multidisciplinary collaborative effort involving polymer chemistry, biochemistry, proteomics and microbiology.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a Ph.D. chemist or biochemist with experience in protein mass spectrometry, and should also have experience in the area of proteomics. Candidates must also have hands-on research experience in protein mass spectrometry, LC-MS/MS, nano-ESI, protein database search algorithms, and familiarity with de novo sequencing.
A strong publication record, and the ability to interface with other cross-discipline collaborators; as well as a desire to mentor graduate students in the research laboratory setting are preferred. Experience with Thermo Scientific Orbitrap mass spectrometers and EDT are preferred. MALDI-TOF experience is a plus.
The tasks and responsibilities for the position may be adjusted based on the skills and strengths of the selected candidate.
