Application deadline is 11 July 2014

The Sars International Centre for Marine Molecular Biology is looking for a postdoctoral candidate experienced in advanced image processing of light and electron microscopic data. The position is assigned to the Hausen lab focusing on cell type and organ system evolution and forms part of running efforts to build comprehensive 3D image resources for developmental and functional studies in invertebrate models by correlation of volumetric data on gene expression, protein localization and cellular ultrastructure. This involves adjustment and development of tools for image registration, segmentation and 3D reconstruction for correlative analysis of large 3D light- and electron microscopic data sets, but also neural circuit reconstruction and general 3D modelling.

The Sars Centre is a partner of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and a department of Uni Research AS www.uni.no, affiliated with the University of Bergen www.uib.no. The Centre is focused on basic research in marine molecular biology, developmental biology and evolution, through genetic and comparative studies of invertebrates and vertebrates. The Centre offers excellent molecular and imaging resources and the University EM facility has recently been upgraded with state of the art equipment for correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) and automated EM image acquisition.

The successful candidate will have a solid background in image processing and will work closely together with the microscopists generating the datasets. Profound knowledge of relevant software tools and programming skills for implementing new algorithms are mandatory.
