Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Associate position in Synthetic Biology at UC-Davis (www.bme.ucdavis.edu/tanlab). The postdoc will be working with Asst. Prof. Cheemeng Tan to implement synthetic molecular controls of artificial cellular systems. The work is a continuation of our paper in Nature Nanotechnology (http://www.nature.com/nnano/journal/v8/n8/full/nnano.2013.132.html). The artificial systems will be applied in bio-sensing, computation, and therapeutic treatment.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate who has a PhD, or is in the final stage of obtaining a Ph.D., in bioengineering, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering or related fields. Essential skills include molecular cloning, microscopy, protein purification, and other fundamental skills of molecular biology. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in drug delivery, construction of liposomes, and membrane biophysics. Additional preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated multidisciplinary and quantitative approaches in their research. Excellent writing and communication skills in English are required. The candidate should be highly motivated, creative, and excited by the engineering of synthetic systems that mimic natural cellular systems.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter stating the applicant?s interests in our research directions, a CV, two sample publications, and the contact of three references, all combined in a single PDF to Prof. Tan (cmtan@ucdavis.edu). Applications will be accepted immediately with an anticipated start date of Jan 2014. Review of applications will continue until the position has been filled by an outstanding candidate.
