Our lab (hogberglab.net) at the Karolinska Institute (ki.se) in Stockholm is working in the field of DNA nanotechnology. In particular we are interested in developing applications and methods that employ this technology for biological and medical research. As an example, we have recently published a method where DNA origami is used to probe receptor activation based on nanoscale separation between ligand in a breast cancer cell-line (http://www.nature.com/nmeth/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nmeth.3025.html )

To take this type of research to the next level will require larger in-vitro experiments and eventually animal studies. In order to achieve this, we are going to need to be able to produce much larger quantities of DNA nanostructures than what can be feasibly achieved today. To this end we have developed a method for enzymatic production of single-stranded oligonucleotides (http://www.nature.com/nmeth/journal/v10/n7/full/nmeth.2503.html ), and we would like to continue with the development of this method. In particular, we would like to use single-stranded DNA phage and engineered bacteria to produce DNA nanostructures via synthetic biology.

Qualifications
We are looking for a creative person to join our team as a Post-Doc. Successful applicants will have a background within microbiology or molecular biology, preferably with experience in synthetic biology, phage and bacterial engineering. Computer science and/or bioinformatics experience will be seen as a plus. The lab will provide opportunity for creative persons to strongly influence the direction of his/hers projects and we are looking for persons that can contribute with their own ideas and proposals. We are interested in individuals that are highly motivated and that aim to become independent researchers. Proficiency in oral and written English is required.

The successful applicant will preferably start working in 2014 but the exact timing can be discussed. The lab is situated at the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet. Information about our lab can be found at: www.hogberglab.net

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as postdoctoral research fellow if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)
  • Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances
  • Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is scheduled within three months after the application deadline)

The application is to be submitted to the MyNetwork recruitment system.
