The CRC 755 “Nanoscale Photonic Imaging” at the
Georg-August-Universität Göttingen

seeks qualified applicants for the position of a

Postdoctoral Research Assistant
(salary group EG 13, TV-L, fulltime 39.8 hours/week)
or
PhD-Student
(salary group EG 13, TV-L, 26.7 hours/week)

to begin on or after December 1, 2013 for a duration of 3 years.

The Institute for Mathematical Stochastics is looking for a suitable candidate for a postdoctoral research position for the analysis and development of advanced data processing methods in nanoscale biophysical imaging. These methods include for example simultaneous denoising and deconvolution techniques for high resolution image processing in the context of fluorescence microscopy of cell structures. The research is a participating project of the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center 755 "Nanoscale Photonic Imaging" and has as its central aim the development of mathematical, statistical, and algorithmic techniques to fully exploit the new technical capabilities being developed by other projects within the center in close collaboration with colleagues from optimization and biophysics. Our goal is to develop fully data-driven statistical methods for the optimal extraction of information from such complex measurements. The project requires strong interest in a synthesis of t!
wo different fields of mathematics, mathematical statistics and optimization, and an interest in biophysics. The position is intended to promote the academic careers of young researchers and provides the opportunity to complete a habilitation or a PhD apart from collaboration with this project.

Prerequisite for the postdoc position is a PhD in Mathematics or a related area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in either one of mathematical statistics or optimization, a willingness to branch out to the other field, and an interest in applications to image processing and/or biophysics.

For further requests please contact Prof. Dr. Axel Munk at munk@math.uni-goettingen.de or www.stochastik.math.uni-goettingen.de/munk]

Please send your full application preferably as a single pdf-file by November 10, 2013 to
