A Post-doctoral research associate is sought to join the Nano-Safety Research Group under the leadership of Prof Teresa F Fernandes (School of Life Sciences). The PDRA will work on a project investigating the toxicity of the components of a new type of cosmetic packaging funded by the European Commission FP7 programme.

We are looking for a highly motivated PDRA with interest and experience in in vitro toxicological assessment, particularly using skin models, although other systems will also be used. The successful candidate will work as part of a EU funded project concerned with developing alternative packaging approaches for cosmetic products. To ensure the safety of these new systems the toxicity of the individual components (including nanomaterials), and the composite material, will need to be assessed prior to their widespread use. Within the project Heriot-Watt University is responsible for the assessment of the toxicity of these different components using in vitro models. The successful candidate will be working within a large consortium of international scientists and companies.

The post is available for 20 months.

Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts at Heriot-Watt

Completed application forms may be returned by e-mail to hr@hw.ac.uk or by post to Heriot-Watt University, Human Resources, Edinburgh EH14 4AS. Tel. +44 (0) 131 451 3022 (24 hours), Minicom +44 (0) 131 451 8212.
