Deadline for submission of applications is February 14, 2014.

Soleil is a particle accelerator that produces synchrotron radiation, extremely powerful light source for exploring inert or living matter. This multidisciplinary tool, indispensable in the fields of research and industrial applications, welcomes more than 3,000 users per year. Financed by two principal shareholders- the CNRS and the CEA- SOLEIL holds a status of “”Public company”. SOLEIL runs continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with uninterrupted periods of up to 7 weeks. SOLEIL staff is composed of about 500 employees, all categories combined (permanent staff, PhD students, post – doctoral students, apprentices ….).

The PROXIMA 1 beamline, using radiation from an in-vacuum U20 undulator installed in a short straight section, is dedicated to macromolecular X-ray crystallography in the energy range 5-15 keV. The beamline also offers the possibility of linking diffraction and other spectroscopic measurements on crystalline samples. It is equipped with a 3 circle kappa goniostat to choose sample orientation with respect to the X-ray beam. The beamline was specifically designed to allow measurements from crystals with very large unit cell dimensions and to measure with high accuracy anomalous differences for MAD or SAD phasing experiments in the above energy range.

1. Mission

We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow in MX to work, in collaboration with our industrial liaison group, on the crystallization, structure determination, refinement and structure interpretation of protein – ligand complexes. The ligand targets used in this work are of a confidential nature, though certain projects could lead to publication. The candidate will be integrated into the PROXIMA 1 and PROXIMA 2 beamline teams, and will benefit from the use of the beamlines for the measurement of diffraction data. Extensive purification and crystallization facilities exist at the SOLEIL site, including AKTA, Mosquito crystallization robot and Emerald Bio-Systems PlugMaker.

2. Qualifications & Experience

Candidates should have a PhD in structural biology, with experience in protein crystallization and structure solution by molecular replacement. The post would suit a recently qualified doctoral student or post-doctoral fellow wishing to further their career in an industrial environment.

3. General conditions

The offer concerns a Post-doctoral contract for a two year-period. The place of work will be at Synchrotron SOLEIL, which is located in the Paris suburbs (Saint-Aubin).

Applications should include a motivation letter and Curriculum Vitae with the addresses of two referees. Applications should be preferably registered directly on the:
