Large hydrogen and fuel cells companies have substantial hydrogen and fuel cell projects, with hundreds of employed PhD level scientists and engineers. Recruitment has been a problem in recent years since only a handful of UK universities carry out research in this area. The University of Birmingham together with Imperial College London, UCL, University of Nottingham and Loughborough University form the UK’s leading training centre in hydrogen and fuel cells.
Applications are open to UK/EU nationals with upper second or better in any relevant humanities or science related degrees. Existing employees with relevant industrial work experience will also be considered.
Researchers will spend time working closely with a number of industrial sponsors. Throughout years one to three, they will pursue mini-project(s) at one of the sponsor organisation either in the UK or abroad (Europe, USA and Canada) whilst receiving supervision, guidance and ongoing tuition from the Universities.
Stipends start at £14,600 tax free per annum with potential for industrial top-up of up to £5,200.

Start date: Negotiable
